La Suisse présente deux expositions à Douala ce weekend. L’un sur les portraits de stars de la musique camerounaises et l’autre, sur la culture de l’eau, du Mamy Wata et du vaudou. Elle a accepté de nous faire quelques confidences au sujet de ses œuvres.
Qu’est-ce qui justifie le choix des thèmes des deux expositions à Doual’art ce 15 mai et au restaurant Le Boj, le 16 mai 2014?
L’exposition qui aura lieu ce soir (Hier Ndlr) est intitulée, «Sea-We» qui veut dire, mer. Un thème centré sur l’eau qui représente beaucoup pour les traditions africaines, mieux c’est une danse à la gloire de l’eau. J’aime la nature. J’ai choisi l’eau parce qu’il y en a partout. Même en nous, il représente 78%. C’est une inspiration. Ces tableaux représentent des danses traditionnelles africaines notamment le culte à Mamy Wata. On a aussi travaillé avec les gens du vaudou. En fait j’ai trouvé en Afrique, une grande source d’inspiration.
Comment êtes-vous entré en contact avec la culture africaine ?
Je ne sais vraiment pas. C’est vrai que j’ai vraiment découvert l’Afrique il y a dix ans par le Kenya, puis le Mali, le Benin et le Cameroun aujourd’hui, mais je crois que je l’avais en moi. Quand j’étais petite, je dansais avec les épaules comme une Bantu et ma mère me disait, non, les filles ne dansent pas comme ça. En découvrant la culture africaine, je me suis redécouverte.
En dehors des cultes à Mamy Wata et danse Vaudou, vous avez aussi peint des portraits des artistes camerounais. Comment s’est fait la sélection de ces artistes là ?
C’est notre ami, l’artiste musicien Petit-pays qui nous a aidés à faire les choix. Nous nous sommes connus par l’entremise de son frère. Donc, c’est lui qui nous a aidés à sélectionner les artistes, lui-même étant du milieu. C’est des artistes parmi lesquels Manu Dibango. Petit-pays va d’ailleurs offrir un spectacle à l’occasion de cette exposition au restaurant Le Boj. J’ai pensé à la musique et à la peinture en même temps parce qu’il y a beaucoup de musique dans ce que je fais. J’écoute toujours de la percussion sur mon ordinateur quand je peins. L’art c’est l’art. Le vieux grec l’appelait poésie et nos projets unissent danse, peinture et musique.
