C’était hier mercredi à l’occasion de la journée mondiale de la liberté à Douala.
Quelques journalistes triés sur le volet ont participé hier 3 mai à une vidéo conférence animé par Edourado Cue, journaliste internationale basé à Paris en France. Il cumule une riche expérience en tant que journaliste de Washington Post, à Associated Press et à United Press International. Grâce à la technologie, le journaliste américain a entretenu la presse camerounaise sur l’éthique journalistique et l’influence des réseaux sociaux sur ce métier que tout le monde croient désormais exercer.
Pour planter le décor, l’américain cite le professeur burkinabé, Joseph ki-Zerbo qui pense que : «La liberté est comme la santé. C’est le bien des biens qui permet de profiter des autres biens». Il ne peut donc avoir de journalisme sans liberté. Une liberté à ne pas confondre avec le libertinage. Un journaliste a-t-on appris est un «intellectuel honnête capable de rester au dessus de la mêlée». Ce dernier n’a donc pas dans son papier, à qualifier ou à prendre partie pour quiconque pour quel que raison que ce soit. «Si on veut être militant, il ya des partis politiques qui ont des médias et d’autres institutions parce que même face à son patron, Ki-Zerbo dit que le journaliste ne doit pas être frileux de la part de son maître», explique le journaliste américain. En somme, un journaliste crédible et de valeur doit aussi bien protéger le public avec qui il communique que son métier. C’est pourquoi il est important de rester professionnelle en respectant l’éthique déontologique. Pour s’enrichir, il faut lire, se cultiver et rester curieux.

Et concernant les réseaux sociaux qui font désormais partie du quotidien d’environ 2 milliards de la population mondiale, Edouardo Cue conseille la prudence et le une fois de plus, le professionnalisme. De son avis, trop d’info tue l’info. Ce n’est pas parce que «quelqu’un a fait un post sur facebook ou un tweet qu’il est journaliste ou que le journaliste doit le croire». Le bon journaliste doit savoir utiliser ses sources d’information et donner la bonne information. Qu’on le croit ou non, tant qu’il a fait son travail, il peut être tranquille. En revanche, «si on suit les bonnes personnes sur internet, on peut se fier à ce qu’elles donnent comme information mais il faut toujours vérifier». Les journalistes qui participaient à cette vidéo conférence ont avoué que les réseaux sociaux leur permettent aussi parfois d’avoir l’information et quelques fois de collecter parce que les internautes sont des personnes qu’ils peuvent aussi rencontrer sur le terrain pour recouper l’information. Les Réseaux sociaux leur permettraient aussi d’avoir un accès rapide à une source d’information. Face à ces remarques, l’américain dit : «je peux comprendre la crise que traverse les médias aujourd’hui parce que l’information coûte cher. Mais aucun échange virtuel ne peut remplacer le terrain, une vraie rencontre humaine avec une source, ce qu’on a vu, entendu ou senti. Pour finir, Edouardo Cue a regretté le fait que les hommes d’affaires n’investissent pas pour une bonne presse mais l’utilise comme des moyens d’influence. Pour ce 3 mai où les journalistes célèbrent la liberté de la presse, le journaliste conseille à ses confrères du monde de se prendre en charge car, c’est avec la même hargne que nous critiquons le gouvernement que nous devons régler nos problèmes.
